I get to enjoy the sensation of a root canal tomorrow! Yay! (sense the sarcasm??)
Prior to last week, I had not been to the dentist in over 4 years, I think. Shameful. I just didn’t have the insurance and didn’t care enough to look into how much it’d cost.
I’d been experiencing pain in a tooth for about a month and finally decided to go take care of it before my insurance ended w/ my job that I quit.
I’m extremely thankful for the insurance I’ve had this year. I had a very bad flu early this year and then suffered though bronchitis and laryngitis just months later. I’m grateful for the medication I received and the ability to get in a stinking car, make a call on my iPhone, and get to a doctor’s office.
I’m sure that most of my friends have some degree of access to insurance and I’m sure that those do not could probably rely on some outside source to assist them if they needed it. It’s a luxury that many people have and I’m painfully aware that many people do not have access to insurance for even the most basic things.
I’m nervous for tomorrow and I’m anxious. But at the same time, I’m looking forward to it because it’s a service I’m receiving that is largely based on privilege and I respect that and am humbled by the experience.
